How to test the Javatm Telnet Application
It is not easy to provide a good test suite to let
you check out how the Javatm Telnet Application/Applet
works. In general if you select one of the links in the box on the
right side of your browser window you will be directed to a page with an
applet embedded. If you see some sort of login prompt you have come so
far as to know that the applet works. However, you will not be able
to log onto our system! To see if it works for you you should download
the package and try it on your own web server.
This version should run with all runtime environments
that are at least Java 1.1.x compatible. If you are working with an older
Java runtime environment (e.g. 1.0) please go to the
old Java 1 version that will work with most currently available browsers.
If you have problems and you do not see any applet
at all or just a gray space or if no login prompt appears then check if
the following requirements are satisfied:
-
You are not behind a firewall. The
applet simply cannot connect through a firewall as it works just like any
other native telnet implementation!
-
Your browser has a Java Runtime (JRE) environment
with a version number greater than 1.1. This is the new JTA version
and it will not run with a JRE 1.0 or less!
In case you still have problems take a look at the
Java console window all browsers provide. You may have to open it first
using some arbitrary menu command. Scroll to the very bottom of the Java
console and see if there is an error message, which in Java is called an
Exception.
Unless it makes sense to you, copy the contents of the Java console window
into an Email and send it to us so we can
have a look what might have caused the error. |
Please read the text to the left before
you go to the test stage.
Telnet
Example Applet |
This is an example for a simple telnet client applet. It does not utilize
any extra plugins except the Socket,
Telnet
and Terminal. |
Enhanced
Telnet Example |
Like the above example, but this example loads the Status
plugin, which informs the user about the current status of the connection
and to what host it is connected to. |
SSH
Applet Example |
In this example we have exchanged the Telnet plugin by the SSH
plugin. Everything else is just like the very first example. |
